GrandFriends

Today was Grandparents Day at TCS. However, we ran into a little dilemma... Not everyone has grandparents, and some live too far away, as I soon found out...One of my students called out to me after a discussion on the up and coming grandparents TEA and DRAMA, "But Miss Budd, my grandparents live in Ghana!" Yikes, think, quick, "Oh dear, well ______ lets turn it into GrandFriends Day and then you can bring anyone who is special to you". That seemed to smooth things over and put a smile on all 13 of my cute little students.

The day turned out great. We had a set of Grandparents (GrandFriends) in over the lunch hour. And later, after the junior high production of "ANNE OF GREEN GABLES", large rotations of GrandFriends made their way in and around desks and interacted with the 'hard' working students ;)

If fact, it worked out quite nicely...both grade one classes did science centers for the afternoon. (I was grateful for the centers, much better than having me in the middle of teaching a lesson...that would be nerve-racking). There was hands-on learning for the students and it gave the GrandFriends the opportunity to see their grandchildren in action (even giving them a hand). It was wonderful fun. The buzz of learning was loud today!

Now my feet are tired.

Excellent...so glad to have something new to read. Grandfriends Day sounds like a great idea. Was it the whole school...or just your grade ones?
Hey, Leanne and I are going to be doing a bit of shopping on Sunday after church. Would you like to come?

Yes, yes I would like to shop with you and Leanne.

GrandFiends Tea was the whole school. The junior highs put on "Anne of Green Gables". I don't know how many junior high grandparents came out though ;(

It was a good day.

I remember when I was in grade three we had a mother daughter day at school. But our mom worked full time and couldn't come. Luckily, Grandma and Grandpa Budd were visiting that week. So, Grandma Jesse came with me to school and made Christmas ornaments (those little mice in the walnut shells). I felt like the most important kid in the class because I had my grandma instead of "just my mom"! How fun to bring a grandparent to school with you!
